Upstairs at '21'
Brooklyn-based artist Wynne Evans created the murals for The Upstairs at '21'. A classically trained painter who studied at the Art Students League of NY and in France, Evans spent over a year creating the murals; to accommodate their size, he had to swap the living and studio space in his home.
His inspiration for The Upstairs' four large wall murals came from frequent visits to The Museum of the City of New York, where he studied photos from the mid-1930s. His murals of a summer afternoon in Central Park beside the Bethesda Terrace and Fountain; autumn at Grand Army Plaza; a snowy winter's eve in Times Square; and Rockefeller Center in the spring, specifically reference car models, movies and fashions from that era. |
