Local Restaurants
The village of Deià offers a varied choice of dining venues, from a local "tapas" bar, to Mallorcan gastronomy or gourmet cuisine.
The nearby village of Valldemossa has a Carthusian monastery where Chopin and George Sand once spent their winters and where Chopin composed several of his most famous preludes. It has also long been a resting place for royal family members and people of the literary world. |
Also in Valldemossa is the "Costa Nord". This is a cultural centre where frequent concerts and lectures are held. There are many local craft shops, an archaeological museum, and art galleries.
On a daily basis it is open for the showing of a documentary film narrated by Michael Douglas recounting the history of this part of the island.
Those interested in history may also like to visit two ancient residences between Deiá and Valldemossa. One is the Miramar monastery, now a museum and also Son Marroig, the former home of the Archduke Luis Salvador, historian, patron of the arts, botanist, ecologist and adventurer. The gardens of Son Marroig are worth a visit, as is the museum. This is also a venue for sunset concerts throughout the year. |
